Jay C Barker's Grave

Today we made our way out to the Mt. Vernon Estates Cemetery on Archer in Lemont, IL. It's right across the street from the Cog Hill Golf Course. With the help of the man in the office, we found the grave, but there is no headstone.

The grace is part of a plot of 4 graves owned by W. R. & Una Maschner. In the first grave is Alberta Milkintas who dies in 1957. The second grave is empty, but it says it is reserved for Vince Malkintas. The next grave holds my greatgrandpa Jay, and the 4th one is empty.

Of interest is that W. R. & Una Maschner were living in Arizona in 1957 per info on ancestry.com:

Spouse: William R Maschner
Residence: 1957 - Phoenix, Arizona, USA

I will have to do more digging to find out why he was buried way out in Lemont, and who the Maschner's and Milkintas's are.

I found Greatgrandpa Jay!

At long last, I've found the death certificate of my Greatgrandpa Jay C. Barker! My Dad always talked about how much he loved his Grandpa Jay, and I've never been able to track down his date of death or place of burial! Now I can go track down his grave at Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Lemont!

For now, here is his death certificate. Thanks to the folks at genlighten.com for their incredible help. After twenty years of looking, they found him in only 2 days!

Madrzjewski Men

I know these are Madrzjewskis -- at least some of them are. And I suspect the one on the far left is Uncle Steve.  But there is nobody left to ask, so this one is left for the ages.  Because of the range of ages, I actually think this may be Steve at the far left, Felix in the middle and maybe Joseph on the far right.  But that's a total guess.

Another item I dug up for Abby today - my greatgrandfather's Naturalization papers.  I am still trying to find out what ship he came over on in around 1881/1882.  Of note here is yet ANOTHER spelling of the last name Mardzjewski.
